AUSTIN, Texas - December 21, 2004 - IBM today delivered new autonomic capabilities in its security management and provisioning software designed to make security more automated and self-protecting, so businesses can spend fewer resources and money on security and more time focusing on their core business objectives.
The new autonomic capabilities featured in IBM Tivoli Security Compliance Manager and IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager software help reduce the damage and disruption that viruses, worms and other security vulnerabilities cause to networks and minimize the impact they have on day-to-day business operations.
IBM Tivoli Security Compliance Manager now integrates with Cisco Systems` Secure Access Control Server to grant or deny network access based on the compliance status of computing devices. IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager features new workflows for security remediation processes and systems management to automatically fix devices that violate policy, making them compliant with corporate policy.

Three years ago IBM launched an industry-wide push for autonomic computing. As part of this initiative, the Cisco Systems` Secure Access Control Server, a Network Admission Control technology, integrates with IBM Tivoli Security Compliance Manager to ensure that PCs, laptops and other devices that do not comply with corporate security policies cannot connect to the corporate network unless security issues are addressed.
Enhanced IBM software available today includes:
§ IBM Tivoli Security Compliance Manager version 5.1 - software that automatically probes devices connecting to the network and flags systems that are not compliant with corporate security policy. The software determines if the device is compliant with current security policies, such as operating system patch version, anti-virus update level, password settings, and other custom policies.
§ IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager version 2.1 – provisioning software that "fixes" non-compliant devices so they conform to corporate security policy. Using workflows for security remediation processes and systems management, the software automates simple tasks, such as prompting users for stronger passwords, or more detailed tasks such as installing operating system patches or anti-virus software updates. IBM`s provisioning technology allows organizations to automatically provision resources across the entire IT environment to respond to changes in security and IT workload, helping improve efficiencies and decreasing manual labor.
