Společnost IBM vytvořila nový standard v oblasti špičkových počítačových systémů uvedením tří nových serverů s procesory POWER5™. Ty svou schopností provozovat více než 250 virtuálních serverů v jediném počítači boří dosavadní výkonové rekordy a zároveň ohromně snižují náklady na správu IT. Jejich pokrokové technologie umožňují zkonsolidovat celé datové centrum na jediný, vysoce výkonný a škálovatelný server, na němž lze provozovat stovky aplikací. Nové servery jsou tedy předurčeny pro zjednodušení informačních infrastruktur zákazníků.
Nově uvedené systémy IBM eServer™ p5 595 a IBM eServer i5 595 jsou nejvýkonnější 64procesorové servery na trhu, jak potvrzují uznávané benchmarky. Představují vlajkové implementace serverových procesorů IBM POWER5 s technologií Virtualization Engine a poskytují úplnou platformu pro provoz řešení, jež pomáhají firmám reagovat na měnící se obchodní potřeby.
Kromě modelu p5-595 také IBM uvedla cenově dostupný 32procesorový server p5-590, který výrazně snižuje pořizovací cenu unixových a linuxových serverů podnikové třídy. Nové servery jsou plně kompatibilní s existujícími servery s procesory POWER4™, takže na nich lze okamžitě provozovat tisíce aplikací od nezávislých dodavatelů softwaru.

IBM eServer p5 590 a 595
Systémy IBM eServer p5 590 a 595, navržené pro konsolidaci datových center a velké podniky, představují další generaci unixových a linuxových serverů podnikové třídy, které snižují náklady na údržbu IT a tím mění ekonomický aspekt provozu Unixu a Linuxu. Nové systémy přinášejí téměř trojnásobek výkonu a dvojnásobek kapacity vysoce úspěšného serveru IBM eServer pSeries 690 – přitom p5-590 je až o 45 procent levnější.
IBM eServer p5 595, který může být osazen až 64 procesory POWER5, vytvořil nové rekordy v sedmi srovnávacích testech, zatímco p5-590 rozšiřitelný až na 32 procesorů POWER5 vytvořil rekordy tři. Systém p5-595 předvedl nejlepší celkový výkon v jednom z nejdůležitějších testů aplikace pro plánování podnikových prostředků (ERP), v dvouvrstvém benchmarku SAP SD. Server p5-595 s 64 procesory dosáhl trojnásobku výkonu serveru Sun 15K se 104 procesory v provozu aplikací Java – procesorový výkon serveru Sun tak překonal o 490 procent. 64procesorový server p5-595 dosáhl více než dvojnásobku výkonu 64procesorového serveru HP Superdome v provozu aplikací Java i v úlohách HPC – ve srovnání s procesory Itanium 2 na 1,5 GHz tak prokázal o 116 procent lepší procesorový výkon.
Když byly 13. července 2004 uvedeny první systémy eServer p5, překonaly více než 35 rekordů výkonnosti víceprocesorových serverů v nejdůležitějších srovnávacích testech. Dnes má produktová řada IBM eServer p5 prvenství v 50 benchmarcích.
IBM eServer p5 590 je k dispozici s taktovací frekvencí 1,65 GHz a lze jej škálovat až na 32 procesorů. Vlajkový model p5-595 je k dispozici s procesory 1,65 GHz nebo 1,90 GHz a lze jej škálovat až na 64procesorový systém, který připravil jiné systémy o prvenství v sedmi náročných srovnávacích testech. Nové systémy podporují AIX 5L™ ve verzích 5.2 a 5.3 a tisíce certifikovaných a dostupných podnikových aplikací.

Unveiled for the first time today, the IBM eServer™ p5 595 and eServer i5 595 are the most powerful 64-way servers in the industry, according to industry benchmarks. They represent the flagship implementations of IBM`s POWER5 server product line and Virtualization Engine technologies – providing a complete platform for the deployment of solutions which enable companies to help meet their changing business needs.
In addition to the p5-595, IBM today also introduced the affordable 32-way p5-590 server, which dramatically lowers the entry price for enterprise-class UNIXŸ and LinuxŸ servers. Fully compatible with existing POWER4™ processor-based servers, these new servers immediately support thousands of key ISV applications.

IBM eServer p5 590 and 595
Designed for data center consolidation and large enterprise clients, the IBM eServer p5 590 and 595 systems represent a new generation in enterprise-class UNIX and Linux servers , which decrease IT maintenance costs and as a result, change the economics of UNIX and Linux computing. The new systems deliver nearly three times the performance and twice the capacity of the highly successful IBM eServer pSeriesŸ 690 – and the p5-590 is priced as much as 45 percent less.
Incorporating up to 64 POWER5 processors, the eServer p5 595 set new records in seven benchmarks while the p5-590 - with up to 32 POWER5 processors - set three. The p5-595 demonstrated the best overall performance2 in one of the most important enterprise resource planning (ERP) benchmarks, SAP SD 2-tier. The 64-way p5-595 tripled the performance of the 104-way Sun 15K server for Java™ serving3 - beating the per-processor performance of the Sun server by 490%. The 64-way p5-595 more than doubled the performance of the 64-way HP Superdome for both Java serving3 and HPC workloads4 -- demonstrating 116% better per-processor performance than the 1.5 GHz ItaniumŸ 2.
When the eServer p5 was originally introduced on July 13, 2004. the new systems broke over 35 records for n-way performance in industry leading benchmarks. Today the eServer p5 family holds the top spot in 50 benchmarks4.
The eServer p5 590 is available with 1.65GHz clock speed and can scale to as many as 32 processors. The flagship p5-595 is available with either 1.65GHz or 1.90GHz processors and can scale to a 64-way system that shatters over seven previously-held leading industry benchmarks. The new systems support AIX 5L™ Version 5.2 and 5.3 as well as thousands of mission critical business applications certified and available on the servers.

Launched in May, eServer i5 systems are designed to assist businesses in reducing complexity and mounting IT costs, while delivering leading integration and technologies that enable organizations to quickly adapt to constantly changing business needs. The ultimate solution server, the eServer i5 system with its integrated, business driven design, provides the broadest choice of applications available on a single server. Tens-of-thousands of ISV applications are available for AIX 5L, i5/OS™, WindowsŸ and Linux operating environments, all supported on the eServer i5 server.
The IBM eServer i5 595 server announced today, is the most powerful iSeries server available and represents the completion of the 2004 POWER5 eServer i5 product line. The eServer i5 595 system delivers over four times the performance of its predecessor, the eServer iSeries 890 32-way server and helps customers reduce IT costs and extend business opportunities.
To mirror real-world demands that companies encounter when attempting to streamline their IT infrastructure through server consolidation, the iSeries Virtualization Grand Slam benchmark has been developed to showcase the eServer i5 system. This benchmark confirms the eServer i5 server’s ability to effectively manage multiple applications and operating systems under daily stresses, without compromising performance, usability or value while demonstrating the benefits of IBM’s Virtualization Engine. Earlier this year, the company turned to its longtime business partner, Agilysys, Hospitality Solutions Group, to simplify their IT operations since the business was growing rapidly.
