PMPO Power - Often times, lower-end computer speakers are listed with their PMPO power rating. This rating is the Peak Mean Power Output, and is the absolute maximum power that the speakers are capable of handling. This rating has almost nothing to do with real-world performance. To compare power outputs of speaker systems, be sure to look for the RMS power rating (explained below). This is how you buy speakers for your home stereo, and is a much better method for matching power.
RMS Power - This is the Root Mean Square power rating, and is quite literally the root mean square of the power output curve. If you've done any wave form analysis, then you'll recognize this rating. If not, then just look for a higher number. Be sure not to confuse the PMPO number with the RMS number. A cheap set of speakers may have a claimed PMPO of 120Watts, but have a listed RMS power rating of six watts per channel.
