Microsoft připravil Windows 2000 tak, aby mohla akceptovat nové aplikace, které se teprve objeví. V systému jsou standardně uvedena doladění systému pro dílčí aplikace, ale pochopitelně se neustále objevuje spousta nových aplikací – především her, které vyžadují dodatečné doladění systému. Proto bude Microsoft pravidelně zveřejňovat doplňky systému pro korektní fungování nově zveřejňovaných problematičtějších aplikací. V
